Wassily Kandinsky in WWII
Wassily Kandinsky
A Russian-born painter and art theorist. Known as one of the pioneers of abstract painting in Western art, he liberated color, line, and form from real-world subjects and pursued painting with spiritual and musical resonance. After studying law and economics, he turned to art seriously at the age of 30 and was active primarily in Germany. He co-founded "Der Blaue Reiter" (The Blue Rider) with Franz Marc and later taught at the Bauhaus. Following the closure of the Bauhaus by the Nazi regime, he emigrated to France and continued creating art until his final years.
