Alban Berg in WWII
Alban Berg
An Austrian composer who, alongside Arnold Schoenberg and Anton Webern, represents the "Second Viennese School". He developed a unique style that fused the rich expressive qualities of Late Romanticism with atonality and the twelve-tone technique. His major works include the operas "Wozzeck" and "Lulu", the chamber piece "Lyric Suite", and the Violin Concerto; he is known for maintaining strong melodic lines and emotional expression even while utilizing the twelve-tone technique. His military service during World War I influenced "Wozzeck", and he is regarded as one of the preeminent opera composers of the 20th century.
