Pablo Picasso in WWII
Pablo Picasso
A Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and poet. One of the defining artists of the 20th century, he developed Cubism alongside Georges Braque and exerted a profound influence on modern art. Over his long career, he explored diverse styles including the Blue Period, Rose Period, African-influenced period, Cubism, Neoclassicism, and Surrealism. His painting "Guernica", depicting the bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War, became a symbol of anti-war art, and following World War II, he joined the French Communist Party and engaged in peace activism.
