The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

Warsaw Ghetto

Established by Nazi Germany in 1940, the Warsaw Ghetto held hundreds of thousands of Polish Jews under catastrophic conditions of overcrowding, starvation, and disease. In 1942, mass deportations to the Treblinka extermination camp decimated the population. Driven by desperation and defiance, remaining inhabitants formed underground resistance networks like the Jewish Combat Organization (ŻOB). This culminated in the historic Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of April 1943, where poorly armed fighters heroically resisted the Nazi military machine for weeks, marking an enduring symbol of Jewish courage and defiance during the Holocaust.
