Alexander Schmorell: Co-Founder of White Rose
Alexander Schmorell
A Russian-born German-Russian student, medical student, and anti-Nazi resistance activist. Along with Hans Scholl, Sophie Scholl, Willi Graf, and Christoph Probst, he became a central figure in the "White Rose," a student group that resisted the Nazi regime. Born to a German father and a Russian mother, he was raised with both German and Russian as his native languages. During World War II, he was deployed to the Eastern Front as a medic, experiencing the reality of war and occupied territories. From 1942, he produced anti-Nazi leaflets with Hans Scholl and also engaged in writing anti-Hitler slogans on walls in Munich. He attempted to flee after the White Rose's activities were discovered, but was arrested, sentenced to death by the People's Court, and executed on July 13, 1943, at Munich's Stadelheim Prison.
