Claus von Stauffenberg: Hero of Operation Valkyrie
Claus Philipp Maria Justinian Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg
An officer in the German Army and one of the central figures of the anti-Nazi resistance movement within Germany during World War II. During World War II, he participated in the invasion of Poland, the Battle of France, the Eastern Front, and the North African Campaign. In 1943, he was severely wounded in Tunisia, losing his left eye, his right hand, and the ring and little fingers of his left hand. Subsequently, together with Henning von Tresckow and others, he planned the assassination of Hitler and the overthrow of the Nazi regime, personally planting a bomb at the Wolf's Lair, Hitler's headquarters in East Prussia, on July 20, 1944. However, although Hitler was injured, he survived, and the coup plan "Operation Valkyrie" failed. After returning to the Bendlerblock in Berlin, Stauffenberg was executed by firing squad in the early morning of July 21 of the same year.
