Thomas Jonathan Jackson
Thomas Jonathan Jackson
Thomas Jonathan Jackson (Stonewall Jackson) was one of the preeminent tacticians who served as a Confederate lieutenant general during the American Civil War. He earned the moniker "Stonewall" for his steadfast defense at the First Battle of Bull Run and bewildered Union forces through rapid forced marches and surprise attacks in the Shenandoah Valley Campaign and the Battle of Chancellorsville. Serving as General Lee's right hand, he supported a string of victories until he was mortally wounded by friendly fire in 1863; his untimely death greatly affected the fortunes of the Confederacy.
