Judah Philip Benjamin
Judah Philip Benjamin was a Louisiana-born lawyer and politician who was the first Jewish U.S. Senator. He also succeeded as a businessman through investments in the railroad industry and sugar plantation management. During the Civil War, known as the "Brains of the Confederacy," he served successively as Attorney General, Secretary of War, and Secretary of State, working frantically as President Davis's closest confidant to secure foreign intervention from European nations and procure war funding. After the defeat, he fled to England, where he achieved immense success as a Queen's Counsel by leveraging his exceptional knowledge of jurisprudence.
