Jefferson Finis Davis: Confederate States President
Jefferson Finis Davis
Jefferson Finis Davis was a politician who served as the first and last president of the Confederate States during the American Civil War. After graduating from the United States Military Academy, he became a hero in the Mexican-American War and deeply contributed to building the nation's infrastructure, promoting the survey of the transcontinental railroad as Secretary of War and as a U.S. Senator. He assumed the presidency of the Confederacy upon secession in 1861. Demonstrating leadership despite struggling with a disparity in material resources, he continued to advocate for Southern traditional rights and historical positions after serving time in prison following the war.
