Siegfried Sassoon's Anti-War Protest
Siegfried Sassoon
A British poet, writer, and soldier. During the First World War, he repeatedly displayed bravery on the Western Front and was awarded the Military Cross. However, experiencing the horrors of the battlefield led him to write anti-war poetry, and in 1917 he published "Finished with the War: A Soldier's Declaration," publicly criticizing the continuation of the war. At Craiglockhart Military Hospital, he met Wilfred Owen and exerted a major influence on his poetry. After the war, he was highly acclaimed not only as a poet but also as an author of autobiographical novels and memoirs, such as "The Sherston Trilogy."
