Bonar Law's Conservative War Coalition
Andrew Bonar Law
British Conservative politician. He served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from October 1922 to May 1923, recording one of the shortest tenures of any British prime minister in the 20th century. Born in Canada, he moved to Scotland at the age of 12. After succeeding as an iron merchant, he became a Member of Parliament in 1900 and assumed leadership of the Conservative Party in 1911. He took a staunch Unionist stance on tariff reform and Irish Home Rule, and served as Colonial Secretary and Chancellor of the Exchequer in the all-party coalition government during World War I. In 1922, he became Prime Minister following the collapse of the Lloyd George coalition government, but resigned in May 1923 due to throat cancer. He passed away in October of the same year.
