Neville Chamberlain
Neville Chamberlain
British Conservative politician. He served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1937 to 1940 and led foreign policy immediately before World War II. He is best known for his policy of appeasement aimed at avoiding war with Nazi Germany, most famously agreeing to Germany's annexation of the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia via the 1938 Munich Agreement. However, after Germany invaded Poland in 1939, Britain declared war on Germany, and Chamberlain led the UK during the initial phase of World War II. He resigned as Prime Minister following criticism of his administration over the 1940 Norway Campaign and continued to serve in the war cabinet until his death from cancer in November of that year.
