Anthony Eden

Anthony Eden

Anthony Eden

British Conservative politician and diplomat. He served as Foreign Secretary three times (1935–1938, 1940–1945, and 1951–1955) and managed Allied diplomacy during World War II as a close advisor to Winston Churchill. He became Prime Minister in 1955, but his administration faltered due to the mishandling of the 1956 Suez Crisis, leading to his resignation on health grounds in 1957. Prior to World War II, he famously resigned as Foreign Secretary in protest against appeasement toward Mussolini's regime in Italy.
