Jesse Holman Jones

Jesse Holman Jones was a Tennessee-born businessman and politician who supported the development of Houston. Serving successively as head of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC) and Secretary of Commerce under the F. Roosevelt administration, he managed emergency loans to financial institutions and businesses during the Great Depression to lead economic recovery. During World War II, he poured massive federal funds into building munitions factories and securing strategic materials, serving as the driving force behind the dramatic expansion of Allied wartime production capacity as the "U.S. Loan Administrator."
