Dean Gooderham Acheson

An American politician, diplomat, and lawyer. He served as the 51st U.S. Secretary of State under President Harry S. Truman and is recognized for leading the formulation of early Cold War American foreign policy. He was deeply involved in the Truman Doctrine, the Marshall Plan, and the creation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), becoming a champion of the "containment policy" alongside George F. Kennan. He played a vital role in building the post-WWII Western alliance and became a towering figure in 20th-century American diplomacy.
